WHY IT MATTERS
Many older adults in our community live on fixed incomes, face isolation, and lack the support they need to age with dignity and independence.
Your sponsorship helps change that.

WHY ADOPT A SENIOR?
No one should have to choose between food and companionship.
Help ensure every older adult in Klamath and Lake Counties has access to nutritious meals, meaningful connection, and the opportunity to age with dignity.
The Silver Wave Is Here
Klamath and Lake Counties are home to one of Oregon's oldest populations, and that number continues to grow every year. Across our rural and frontier communities, thousands of older adults are choosing to age where they belong: at home, close to their families, neighbors, and the communities they've helped build.
In Klamath County alone, approximately 23% of residents are age 65 or older, while one in every five Lake County residents has reached retirement age. The "Silver Wave" isn't coming; it has already arrived.
At the same time, rising food costs, inflation, transportation challenges, and increasing demand for services are placing unprecedented pressure on older adults living on fixed incomes and the organizations that serve them. While federal and state nutrition programs provide a critical foundation, many of these programs have eligibility requirements and funding limitations that prevent us from reaching every senior who needs help.
At KLCCOA, we believe no older adult should go hungry because of a funding formula or eligibility requirement.
That is why we created Adopt a Senior.
This community-driven initiative helps bridge the gap by providing local support for home-delivered meals, congregate dining programs, and the connections that help older adults remain healthy, independent, and engaged.
Because in Klamath and Lake Counties...
We Take Care of Our Own.

THE IMPACT OF YOUR DONATION
A meal is never just a meal.
For many older adults, a home-delivered meal is also a safety check, a friendly conversation, and reassurance that someone cares. For others, gathering at a congregate meal site means reconnecting with friends, sharing laughter, staying active, and finding purpose within their community.
Research consistently shows that social isolation and loneliness significantly increase the risk of depression, heart disease, stroke, cognitive decline, dementia, and premature death. In fact, the U.S. Surgeon General has identified loneliness as a national public health crisis, and studies suggest that chronic social isolation can have health impacts comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Senior nutrition programs are among the most effective ways to address both hunger and isolation. National studies show that congregate meal participants experience greater social connection, improved health, and a stronger sense of belonging. More than 70% report improved health, and nearly 86% say they simply feel better because of these programs.
Every meal served is an investment in independence.
Every visit reminds someone they are not alone.
Every shared table strengthens our community.

OUR VISION
Ending Senior Hunger in Klamath & Lake Counties
This is an ambitious goal.
It's also one worth pursuing.
We envision a future where:
-
No older adult waits for a nutritious meal.
-
No senior skips meals because of financial hardship.
-
No one grows isolated simply because they can no longer drive.
-
Every older adult has access to healthy food, meaningful connection, and the support needed to remain independent at home.
We know we cannot accomplish this alone.
But together, we can move closer every day.
